Owlcoholics Anonymous

For some reason...

... owls are just asking for it! Maybe it has something to do with their big, round eyes, but Craft-land doesn't seem to get enough of them!

And suddenly I found the owl-virus spreading to me too!!

It started with socks…

… then a bag…

... and before I knew it I was making an owl myself!!

The result? Not quite as beautiful as some of the owls out there, but good enough for me :)

Jazzberry Jam-tastic!!!

And suddenly, I just had to make another Totoro out of felt! But this time...

... it had to be PINK!!!

Now before some of you smartass readers out there (you know who you are!! ;) start another debate on colour, and telling me this little Totoro ain’t pink: you’re right, it’s not.

It’s JAZZBERRY JAM!!! And that sounds so much better anyway :)

The Holiday Files: Week Three (2)

New York City BABY!!!! :)

I couldn’t believe we finally made it all the way to New York City! And I couldn’t believe it was raining either… Times Square looked grey, wet and sad as we arrived, and I was hardly able to take any photographs :(

Oh no, wait. I took this one of J standing next to a giant Lego Chewbacca :)

It stopped raining right before we got to Central Park, and although I can imagine the atmosphere being a lot more upbeat and fun on a sunny day, we had a great time walking around the damp, quiet lanes and pathways circling through the woods.

The skyscrapers at the horizon were the only things reminding us we were still in a city... I LOVED IT!!! ;)

Next day, we visited downtown Manhattan and the weather had significantly improved!

The sun was even shining, so it was back on with photography!

Ground Zero was maybe the most impressive thing we saw on our whole trip to the States.

It is not until you are there that you can truly understand the magnitude of it all. How big those buildings must have been. How catastrophically it truly was.

(Where they were.)

(Where they would’ve been.)

And then our trip to the States was over. It was amazing. It was great. It was CRAZY! Goodbye Lady Liberty!! Till next time???

The Holiday Files: Week Three (1)

As I said, I can’t stand the heat! Needless to say I wasn’t too sad leaving Florida and heading up north, through Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina – all the way up to Virginia. It was great seeing the landscape change, from tropical marshes to breathtaking forests.

Too bad we couldn’t take our time and explore: we had cities to go to!

~ Part One: Washington DC ~

How glad I was to see something other than fast-food restaurants and theme parks! So much happened in this city over the past centuries, and so much was being remembered.

We spent a whole day visiting the Washington Monument...

... the Lincoln Memorial...

... the Vietnam War Veterans Memorial...

... the Korean War Veterans Memorial...

... and Arlington Cemetery.

The next day we visited the Capitol and the White House. Security was insane, with road blocks, metal detectors and bag searches at every entrance. Rationally, you know why it’s done, but it was kind of shocking to see a city so full of fear.

A helicopter landed near the White House though, and we liked to tell ourselves Obama was in it :)

So we had a great time, with great (nice & cool) weather! ;)

See that face? That's my "thank god for cool breezes"-expression! ;)

More of that in the last part of our journey: New York City!

The Holiday Files: Week Two

Do I need to say more? :)

Week Two of our trip to the States consisted of beautiful, white beaches...

... reading by the pool...

... and exploring The Wild!

The latter of course being my favorite part! We saw alligators...

The most beautiful birds...

And a whole bunch of stingrays!

Still to come in Week Three: Washington DC & New York City!

The Holiday Files: Week One

Florida. The Sunshine State. It wouldn’t have been my first choice if I’d been making this trip to the USA on my own, considering the fact that I can’t stand heat. We were traveling with J’s entire family however, and they happen to love temperatures above 85 oF (= 30 oC)...

So off I went… and spent the first week of the trip hiding in the shade with a mini fan. :) Distractions came in the form of theme parks, swimming pools and shopping malls – again, not really my cup of tea, but we had fun anyway.

I’d never been to the States before, and the whole country turned out to be… quite remarkable. From the utter obsession of food…

(Nobody needs this much cereal...)

... to the amazing wildlife!

This guy almost walked into our house! Quite a difference from the blackbirds I’m used to...

And then our first week was over and we were trading in Orlando for the Gulf of Mexico. More pictures, wild life & beaches in Week Two!

I'M BACK!! (Well, almost...)

After a nine hour flight and a jetlag that makes me wonder why the sun shines at night, I'm not quite ready to start blogging yet.

So instead, I'll show you a scene from 500 Days of Summer, a movie I watched on the plane last night. Picture yourself expecting a normal enough romantic guy-meets-girl flick, and then finding yourself in the middle of this:

If that doesn't make you wanna get up and dance in the streets, I don't know what will!
